The book
Kayang Kayang Kaya ni Pen! (in English, Pen Can Really, Really, Really Do It!) is a children’s book I wrote, illustrated, and designed as part of my visual communication thesis.
The story follows a young protagonist who learns the small joys of outdoor play. Through bright illustrations and an uplifting narrative, the book makes a quiet argument for the physical, mental, and social benefits of getting outside, for parents and educators as much as for the kids.
The why
The thesis was about the positive impact of outdoor activities on child development. Books are easy to give. A book is harder to ignore than a lecture. I wanted to make something a parent might actually leave on a coffee table.
